Cremation Services

Over 65% of the families we serve choose cremation as their preferred form of disposition. Litwiller – Simonsen Funeral Home has operated a crematory on-site for over 30 years. Our equipment meets or exceeds state and federal emissions standards and is operated with the care and respect due the families we serve.

For some it is important to be very involved in all funeral arrangements so we provide the opportunity for family and friends to attend the cremation when desired. We strive to make this experience a meaningful one.

Cremation containers: The deceased remains are placed in a combustible container for transport into the crematory. Some of the choices include a simple cardboard box, a casket suitable for display at a memorial service, or rental caskets with a combustible interior cremation container. Cremation Urns: Once the cremation process has taken place the ashes are placed into an urn. They can be made from metal, wood, ceramic, or even glass. Their appearance can be very simple or elaborate. Some urns are biodegradable such as our Eco Urns made from cornstarch and some are made from sustainably harvested bamboo. We are constantly looking for urns that are attractive, environmentally friendly and are a good value.

The choice of an urn depends largely on the intended use and personal preference of the family. Some will choose something very simple with plans to scatter the ashes. Others find value in having the cremains present at a memorial service with the urn designed to represent the deceased.

Memorial services: It is important and meaningful to allow family and friends to celebrate the life of someone when they have died. The funeral chapel at Litwiller – Simonsen Funeral Home can seat over 100 attendees. We have the ability to play recorded CDs, tapes, and DVDs. We also have a grand piano for your favorite musician to play or we can provide a pianist for you.

Scattering Ashes: The State of Oregon allows ashes to be scattered with minimal restrictions. Many have been scattered near Grizzly Peak, in mountain lakes, rivers, or the Oregon Coast.
