Carl Lloyd McKirgan II – June 28 1939 - February 6, 2019 “This is what death should be; a quiet choice, made joyfully and with a sense of peace, because the body has been kindly used to help the Son of God along the way he goes to God. We thank the body, then, for all the service it has given us. We call it death, but it is liberty.” A Course In Miracles, The Song of Prayer. Carl was born in Des Moines Iowa, the son of Carl L. McKirgan and Violette Mae (Thornton) McKirgan. On his maternal side he descended from Richard Warren of the Mayflower Compact 1620 and William Thornton an early 1650 settler in Virginia and per family lore related to ultimately the Kings of England and William the Conqueror. With Carl’s sense of humor, he would sometimes kid about being from Royalty. He peacefully transitioned from this world on February 6, 2019 at Celia’s Hospice House, Holmes Park, Medford, OR. Carl grew up playing along the banks of the Des Moines River. In his Jr. year of high school his family moved to Oakland, CA where he majored in Business and Chemistry. He joined the Coast Guard based at Alameda, CA in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1966. Being endowed with an outgoing personality he gave up Chemistry and entered the business world. He worked for Moore Business forms and eventually formed his own company, Pacific West Business Forms in San Francisco and Walnut Creek. He sold the business in 1995 taking a two year sabbatical to travel the world. His love of water led him to live in Naples Florida on the Gulf of Mexico for ten years. While there he formed Gulf Atlantic Business Forms. He and his wife Sally returned to the West Coast and retired in Ashland where they had stayed during the sabbatical. His sense of humor led him to do a stint in standup comedy in San Francisco. He was a member of Olli and enjoyed learning, riding his bike and going to plays. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a student of A Course In Miracles. He and his wife led a Course study group in Ashland, still ongoing. He was preceded in death by his youngest son Shawn Jason in 2013. He leaves his wife, Sally and Son, Scott of Ashland, Shawn’s wife Mitsuko Jean and grandchildren Luke and Kelsey of Danville, CA and cousins in the Midwest. A small family celebration will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers suggested donations to your favorite charity or consider The Alzheimer’s Foundation to support Alzheimer’s research.
