Charles Hoagland January 31, 1928 - June 25, 2022 Charles Hoagland, affectionately known by all as Chuck, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2022, in Medford, Oregon. Chuck was born in Berkeley in 1928, where his father, Dennis Hoagland, was a professor of plant nutrition. He graduated with a chemistry degree from UC Berkeley. He joined the Air Force during the Korean War, and then worked as a chemist at Tidewater Oil in Martinez, California. He started a career in pharmacy after receiving a graduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He married Grace Cameron in 1954, and they raised their family in San Diego, Eureka, and Santa Rosa. He was a retail pharmacist in California for almost 30 years before joining the pharmacy team at Napa State Hospital for another 3 decades. He retired at 86 and moved with Grace to Medford, Oregon. Chuck loved to run, a daily habit he started in his 30s. He ran 25 marathons and 50+ shorter runs, finishing his last race at 90 in Kenwood, California. He was a family man, spending much time with his brothers Albert and Bob, children, and grandchildren. He loved camping, hiking, and swimming. Outside of work, Chuck attended school most of his life, receiving a teaching credential and completing law school. At home, he spent hours each week keeping up pharmacy developments. He and Grace moved to Medford’s Rogue Valley Manor in 2014. Even in retirement, he taught pharmacy classes to life-long learners at Southern Oregon University. And up to the end, he worked out daily, remained an avid sports fan, and followed current events. He is survived by Grace, his brother Albert, his children Steve, David and Lauri, and grandsons Cameron and Linden Fowler. He had two great-grandchildren, Hudson and Hadley. He is predeceased by his brother Bob. Instead of flowers, please give in his honor to a nonprofit organization he strongly supported, Health Care for All Oregon (https://www.hcao.org/donate-c3), which strives to bring health care to all Oregonians. The family will hold a private grave-side burial in Napa and a memorial service at the Rogue Valley Manor. Chuck will be sorely missed by his family and everyone who knew him.
