Gayle Vincent, 84, of Ashland, Oregon peacefully passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022 in her easy chair at her home. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and teacher; she sensibly wrote her own obituary several years ago: --- Casper WY – born to and blessed by parents Arthur and Maxine Kerr Childers. Nurtured in a homestead log cabin. Vallejo CA – lasting impressions of blackouts, air-raids, barrage balloons and spam decorated as ham during WWII. Eugene OR – Home! Running free through woods and meadows with siblings, Marlene, Art Jr., and Carol. Marylhurst College, OR – taught by Sisters of the Holy Names, who challenged and encouraged me to become more than I ever thought possible. Salem OR, Oakland CA, Santa Cruz – classrooms where I was rewarded with enthusiastic students and grateful parents. Oakland CA – married to A.E. (Steve) Vincent in 1965. Learned that opposites do attract. They complete, compliment and surprise with joy. Ashland OR – no better place to be! New skills as a campground owner brought rich experiences and lasting stories of wonderful campers. Science Works Museum volunteering kept an old teacher’s “foot in the door” and taught me, along with the children, science. Children – Michael, Julia (Curtis) and Matthew (Nicole) brought a wonderful, fulfilling unconditional love plus the rewards of grandparenting Kate, Tess and Anthony, and the exciting joy of great grandchildren, Luke, Vincent, Alden and Greyson, all of whom encourage seeing with fresh eyes, as if for the first time.
