Wilhemina Petronella Williams Known as “Miny” passed away at 91 years of age on 1 Jan 2021. Miny was born 25 Oct 1929 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands to Leonardus Adrianus “Leo” Huijgen and Cornelia Johanna Louisa Heesbeen. She lived through the German occupation of the Netherlands in WWII, attended the Roman Catholic Parish School for Girls and the Roman Catholic Lyceum for Girls (High School), and graduated with a 5 year diploma. She studied typing and shorthand and started work as secretary, then private secretary to the manager of an ocean going vessels outfitting company in Rotterdam. She moved from Rotterdam to North Holland province to work as secretary to a medical research facility north of Alkmaar. In 1959 she immigrated to the USA, following her brother Antonius “Ton” Huygen to the Bay Area, where she lived in San Francisco and became secretary to a prominent researcher at Stanford University, working to process medical research grants for the University. On 6 May 1972 she married Charles “Dean” Williams (a WWII veteran) in Reno, NV. After settling for a few years in San Jose, CA, they bought an RV and traveled the West and South West until settling in the Medford area in Oregon, first in Applegate, and later just outside of Medford. Miny continued to work, picking up transcribing and writing projects until she officially retired. Miny became a widow on 2 Jan 2008, and spent her remaining years in the Medford area interacting with friends, clubs, and community. She and her property survived the recent evacuation due to the 2020 summer fires in the Medford area, but she suffered a series of falls and a hip replacement in the later half of 2020. After Thanksgiving she entered into care at the Linda Vista Rehab and Care Facility in Ashland, where she passed on 1 Jan 2021. She is survived by her brother Hans Huygen (Orange Co), and brother Frans Huijgen and sister Carrie Mik in the Netherlands. Also by her sister-in-law Trudie Huygen and nieces Monique Huygen, Debbie Ward, and Yvette Huygen-Deshpande in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her niece Nanine Russo in the Seattle area, nephew Christian in NYC, and Conrad currently RVing the East Coast. And all her nieces and nephews in the Netherlands (Marc Bruin, Lennert Bruin, Richard Huijgen, Ronald Huijgen, Arnoud Huijgen, Edwin Huijgen, and all her grand nieces and nephews. Donations can be made to the Medford fire relief fund in lieu of flowers.
